Kilmacud Crokes - All Ireland Hurling 7s 2018

The greatest game in the world reached it's pinnacle last week with Limerick lifitng the Liam McCarthy Cup, at Croke Park. Only twenty four hours earlier some of Irelands premier hurling clubs met at the fantastic facilities of Kilmcud Crokes, in South Dublin, to compete in the sports annual All Ireland 7s competition. A warm humid day produced a plethora of high octane hurling with sixteen teams battling it out for the prestigious title. From the group stages the eight quarter finalists were determined with Kilmacud Crokes taking on Ahane, Athenry playing Murroe Boher, Doon battling Patrickswell and Portroe facing Beagh. Limerick and Galway showing it's 7s strength just a day before the two met face to face at Croker.

The pick of the quarter final games was a nailbiting match between Doon and Patrickswell that finished 5-9 to 6-6, respectively. It took a penalty shoot out to split the two sides with Doon the eventually victors. From the other quarters Kilmacud, Portroe and Murroe Boher advanced.

We've put together a list of the goals of the Tournament. Check out our 7s Top 7 and Vote for your favourite.

A bumper crowd was now gathered either side of the pitch at Pairc de Burca and they were not left dissapointed. The game was neck and neck, nip and tuck with both teams landing counter blows. The drama culminated late in the second half when Kilmacud's Ronan Hayes appeared to have his goal bound shot saved at the expense of a point by Gleeson in the Portroe goal. Some confusion arose as the score board read a point but the goal side umpire confirmed it had gone under the bar through a hole in the netting. This served only to bhouy Portroe who came on strong in the closing minutes with some last ditch defending and O'Halloran making it a one score game. The puck out came at the sound of the final whistle and for only the 3rd time Kilmacud Crokes won the tournament on their home ground. Congratulations to Kilmacud Crokes on a well deserved victory and to Caolan Conway on picking up Player of the Tournament.
